Free as a bird

This little birdie escaped her cage. Escaped being pent up in a small, boring, metal existence. She is literally free as a bird. That is what this painting is called. I love this bird, so sweet, so blue. She represents possibility, and escaping the bonds we have in any situation. She represents freedom.

I can imagine her living in a haven like this beautiful tree, with all it's tangled arms and branches. Oh the stories this tree could tell me.

It sits in the yard of an old southern church here in South Carolina. I drove by it and just had to stop. The church itself was so striking and the trees...ughhh, the trees. I have a thing for trees. I don't know what it is, but they are one of my favorite things to paint or photograph. Imagine all the things it has seen. All the beautiful, loud baptist choirs it has heard. All the funerals and angst it has seen. All the seasons it had weathered so strongly.

Now I understand wanting to hug a tree. It just looks so strong and brave for some reason. This is the church that is protected by it's long arms. It was built in 1891.

This is what the beautiful tree looks over too. An old graveyard. If you know me and my love for paranormal, magical things you'll know I just had to go walk through this graveyard. Especially at this time of the year.

It is beautiful and spooky. Just what I like. (Any Ghost Hunters fans?)

LOVE that show!!! Click here if you have no idea what I am talking about ;)

14 days till Halloween!! Yeah baby!! I am busily preparing for the Halloween blog party tomorrow. Check back if you LOVE Halloween. I will have lots of awesome decor and easy tips for making your house S-P-O-O-K-Y! Plus, I just might have my Etsy shop up and running. Me equals loser, and I SWEAR by today this painting and others will be listed.

See y'all later. (Yes, I am picking up some southern things. Y'all is just too much fun to say y'all ;)

xoxo Emily

Emily, I love your painting of the bird and what it means. The first tree photo under your painting, and the photo of the fence with the vines on it were fantastic photos. -Eric

I'M A HUGE GHOST HUNTERS FAN!!!! I met them last May (and took pics)and I actually blogged about it. And since they live so close, my niece and I once stalked the TAPS headquarters. Yeah, kinda crazy! Did you realize that Grant is mormon?

Anyway, I'm also super into the paranormal. I've had some experiences.

Love trees too and I love that little white church you snapped!

By the way, sorry for not mentioning the painting in my comment because it's totally AWESOME!

Grant is totally mormon. Look it up. Also, my husband was talking to him about what stake we're in and asking about his ward and someone in it. It's totally true!

I'll find my ghosthunter post and link you. Yes, come up and let's stalk!!

Here is the link: http://connecticutaly.blogspot.com/2008/05/ghosthunters-in-my-town.html

Sorry, I don't know how to make it a proper link, so you'll probably have to copy and paste.

Oh, more about Grant: His wife is from Spanish Fork, UT and he served his mission in Italy. Yeah, it seems I know a little too much and should therefore be on medication or something! :-)
